Bleeding

BLEEDING — The loss of sap from plant tissues which have been cut.

There are times when our children are just “sapped”. They can be “bleeding” physically, mentally or emotionally. It seems as if life demands much from our young people today. There is much they have to face, many times at an age younger than we did when we were kids. This sapping of energy, in any form, makes the child feel tired, drained of energy and emotion, and sometimes appear almost depressed. Often we may think these energy sapping issues may be trivial, but to the child, they are huge. The child may need some help regaining energy and strength after these times of “sapping”. We all know how it feels to be drained, to feel sapped. If we can realize that our kids are feeling these same pressures and emotions, we may be better able to deal with some of the feelings we often attribute to “teenage angst”.

As parents, we face a seemingly endless TO DO list. We become sapped ourselves, bustling around keeping jobs, children, the house, and our own lives in order. Sometimes, when we’re overly tired, we snap at people or go around in a fog.

Sometimes we’re so busy, we don’t notice the same symptoms in our children.

I completely agree. I have been amazed at the scheduling demands put on families by the public schools and the extra curricular activities provided by them. It is huge…and we do get so caught up in our own “fog” that we do often miss this in the kids…
