Mystery Seeds
Last weekend I caught a snippet of a show I’d not seen before. It is called Donna’s Day on PBS, hosted by Donna Erickson. She has much Fabulous Fun Stuff for Families and has shared this in a book and on her show. She closed her show telling a story about a friend who gave her children a packet of mystery seeds. The seeds were planted. The children guessed as to what the seeds would turn out to be when they grew. They planted them, watered them, provided them with light. Donna relates this story to the idea of parenting. We receive in our children a packet of mystery seeds. We don’t know exactly what they will be when matured. We feed them with our love, we water them with our interests. We provide light and guidance with our values. And one day, we will marvel at the beautiful growth in their life.
